North Shore Girls Prospect Team flies to San Jose for the MVLA Bay Area Spring Cup Tournament

(NSGSC NOTE: this trip was already booked before the club policy on U.S. travel was in place)

Thursday, April 27, 2017:

Most of our team, their parents who included our team managers Kelly, Tammy and Kathy,  our head coach Sipho and assistant coach Janine… flew by Air Canada Jazz to San Jose. We reached our hotel the Aloft Santa Clara by 1930 in time for food and drinks in the lounge.

Friday 28th, 2017:

Coaches Sipho and Janine led a training and fitness session in the morning leaving us with a warm and sunny afternoon to explore the area. Many of our car groups met up in Santa Cruz at Monterey Bay to hang out on the beach with a resident sea otter, and an amusement park a stone’s throw away while some members explored Stanford University. The roller coaster and haunted house were a hit. After Mexican food for supper, we headed back to the hotel.

Saturday, April 29th, 2017:

In The Girls U11 Silver division, the North Shore Girls Prospects played Lost Gatos United. Our Team nicknamed Thunder by the Girls before we left for the tournament savored a 3- 1 victory.  In the afternoon the NSGSC Prospects played MVLA Roma Green and tied 2-2,  Our American opponents were athletic, big and fast; but our girls opened up the field with their ball skills and passing and determination.  After a successful day, the girls enjoyed a pizza party and Harry Potter movies on the TV. Some of the adults went out for Sushi, and Italian while our fabulous team managers held the fort.

Sunday, April 30th, 2017:

An early morning start playing Palo Alto Sc White morphed into a 2-0 victory. Wow, now the NSGSC was in the finals against a team (the Quakes) that had just crushed one of our opponents 8-0 (yikes). The Prospects were up to the task spurred on by outstanding coaching by Sipho and Janine. It looked like -Thunder was on their way to victory 2-0 when an unlucky deflection bought the American team within 1 and made for a nail-biting finish. Squeals of joy from the Prospect team once the whistle blew on a 2-1 win. Then onto the medal and trophy ceremony. Sipho was presented with an attractive glass trophy with a soccer ball a top a pedestal!  The North Shore Girls Soccer Prospects Team represented their club admirably with their respectful behaviour and industrious play.

Go Thunder you deserve to bask in the glow of success! A mammoth thank you to the coaches and managers who kept things running smoothly, ensuring that we were nourished, rested, and organized.  And thanks to Rick Milone as our paparazzi photographer!
