Coach Mentoring Program

The 20010/11 season represents the fifth year of the coach mentoring program. This program is aimed directly at addressing the shortage of female soccer coaches while promoting coaching development at the grassroots level of the NSGSC. Honorariums will be extended to qualifying player mentors who are selected to develop their coaching skills. The program has funding to allow 30 player mentors and will run until August 2011.

The increase in the size of this program demonstrates the commitment NSGSC is prepared to make to identify and develop female coaches within our own association. The NSGSC believes that this development should be a mandate for all women’s amateur sports associations. A mentoring committee has been established to manage and evaluate the program.
Details of the project follow:

North Shore Girls Soccer Club
Player and Team Mentor Program

Application Procedure

Objective:

The NSGSC Player and Team Mentor Program is designed to identify and nurture female graduating soccer players who demonstrate the desired skills for coaching by providing them opportunity to experience coaching younger teams.

Goals:

i) To increase opportunity for young women to access the coaching experience.
ii) To support qualified graduating soccer players in their pursuit of coaching development opportunities.
ii) To provide Pee Wee and Divisional teams with female player role models and to establish mentoring experiences for younger players.

Program Description:

The NSGSC Player and Team Mentor Program for graduating club-athletes (U-17 to Women’s) will be aimed at targeting the rich source of potential coaches in the ranks of our graduating soccer players and developing new apprentice coaching positions to attract these women.
The program is based upon the matching of an apprentice coach (graduating NSGSC player) with a younger team and coach. The program will be structured to meet the needs of both the mentor and team. Graduating players selected will also be eligible for soccer coach certification through the NSSDC as long as they maintain their relationship with the mentor team.

Duration of the Player and Team Mentor Program:

Financial resources will be available for approved activities between the period of August 2nd, 2009 and August 1st, 2010. Application approval and participation in the program is subject to NSGSC Mentoring Committee determination and funding availability.

Financial Assistance:

• Registration fees for NSSDC coaching Certification will be paid if the graduating player successfully completes a coaching course. NOTE: It is a prerequisite that the selected player attend at least one coaching certification course.

Honorariums remuneration will be tiered TBA:
