WHAT IS THE JUNIOR COACH PROGRAM?

  • A way for the NSGSC to support players in our community in gaining coaching, leadership, and professional skills.
  • Providing contact with great role models for our younger players to look up to.
  • Developing positive Mentor-Mentee relationships to help our senior players develop effective communication/listening skills, goal-setting accountability, showing initiative, and taking risks to grow.
  • All while, creating opportunities for players to build confidence in coaching roles.

JUNIOR COACH RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Be professional, enthusiastic, and energetic
  • 16yrs+ MUST take NCCP coach certification
  • Participate in 4 workshops to support methodology and training outcomes
  • Assist team(s) during practices and games
  • Work with coaches in supporting team development through age-appropriate sessions
  • Provide leadership, instruction, and guidance to athletes
  • Mentor the young NSGSC players by being a positive role model
  • Be an active participant in your assigned Mentor-Mentee relationship
  • Participate in all NSGSC Junior Coach mandated Information Sessions
  • Complete all program goal setting activities and attend any review meetings
  • Report all hours, signed by your mentor, in a timely manner
  • Complete all necessary reports requested by the NSGSC

Junior Coach Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $16.75 (or you can choose to collect volunteer hours)
  • Season Maximum: $500.00
Programs Available to Support

· U8-U13 Teams (Weeknight practices, Sunday games, if possible)

· U4/U5 Program (Saturdays Mornings)

· U8-U12 Development Centre (Wednesday and Thursday Evening)

· S4E - Soccer for Everyone (Saturday Afternoon)

Coach Education Sessions

Jr Coaches are expected to attend these sessions throughout the season.

· SATURDAY, October 14, NSGIF/Bubble, 3:00-4:00pm - INTRO SESSION

· SATURDAY, November 4, NSGIF/Bubble, 3:00-4:00pm - EDUCATION SESSION

· SATURDAY, December 16, NSGIF/Bubble, 3:00-4:00pm - XMAS SESSION

· SATURDAY, February 3, NSGIF/Bubble, 1:30-3:00pm - EDUCATION SESSION

· SATURDAY, March 2, NSGIF/Bubble, 1:30-3:00pm - WRAP UP

MENTOR TEAM COACH APPLICATION

We are looking to encourage more female leaders. Do you want to help??

We are looking for professional, confident, and engaging mentors to support the development of our young players between the ages of U15-U18 in their quest to step outside their comfort zone and take on the challenge of learning to be a proactive leader through coaching.

Mentor Team Coach Responsibilities:

· Must commit to the Mentor-Junior Coach relationship for the season.

· Serve as a positive role model by modeling professional behaviours e.g. patience, tolerance, inclusion, leadership, and active communication/listening.

· Be encouraging and supportive of the Junior Coach to help them achieve their goals set at the beginning of the program and reflection throughout the season.

· Work with the Junior Coach by challenging them to help gain their leadership and coaching confidence but also be patient and understand that the process takes work and time.

· Play a big role in changing the culture of girls' soccer by encouraging more females to take on coaching roles in a safe, supportive, and positive environment.

· Complete program evaluation surveys as requested by the NSGSC.

· Provide effective feedback to the Junior Coach to support their development.

JUNIOR MENTOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Are you excited to get started but you aren’t U15 yet? We have a pathway for you!

Are you a U13 - U14 NSGSC or North Vancouver based player looking to gain invaluable mentoring experience in a supportive coaching environment? We have volunteer opportunities for you to gain the experience necessary to prepare to become a Junior Coach.

Junior Mentor Volunteer Responsibilities

· Be professional, enthusiastic, and energetic

· Participate in 4 workshops to support methodology and training outcomes

· Assist team(s) during practices and games

· Work with coaches in supporting team development through age-appropriate sessions

· Mentor the young NSGSC players by being a positive role model

· Be an active participant in your assigned Mentor-Mentee relationship
