Scholarships
Each year NSGSC recognizes our U18 players who have made a positive impact on the club, school teams, and the community through demonstrating a high level of leadership and commitment. We would like to thank these players for their hard work and dedication by offering the opportunity to apply for our following scholarships.
North Shore Girls Soccer Club 2026 Scholarship Recipients
NSGSC YOUTH: LEADERSHIP AND ATHLETICS SCHOLARSHIP
NSGSC recognizes the players who have made a positive impact on their club or school teams and demonstrated leadership qualities and a commitment to improve their team experience, above and beyond expectation, while they are in our Club.
Recipient: DEVON KYLE, WARRIORS
Devon is a determined and empathetic leader who shows leadership through empowerment and positivity, and as capital of her team, ensures her teammates feel valued, motivated and confident. Leading by example both on and off the field, whether through sport or in the workplace, Devon consistently modes accountability, teamwork and determination while uplifting those around her and making meaningful impact through connection and trust. Devon’s dedication to growth – both her own and others – has prepared her to pursue a Bachelor in Science with the same passion and perseverance that defines her leadership journey.
RENEGADES: EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Thank you to the 2005 Renegades who made a 3-year endowment to our club and will be offering a scholarship of $500 to one of the graduating 2008 U18 Renegades players. This is the third and final year of this 3-year scholarship. This scholarship is being awarded to a player who demonstrates excellence both on and off the field and has demonstrated a commitment to the game for fun, friendships and fitness.
Recipient: CHARLISE WATSON, RENEGADES
Charlise has been a proud member of NSGSC since childhood and a dedicated Renegade for the past six years. Throughout her time on the team, Charlise has grown into a confident, committed, and inspiring teammate who embodies the values of the Renegades both on and off the field. Her leadership extends beyond the field, where she has coached and mentored young players - as a coach and referee – and has committed herself to giving her time as a camp leader and teacher’s assistant. Whether she’s leading her team, or mentoring young athletes, Charlise’s dedication to her community, her sport and the enrichment and empowerment of those around her, her excellence shines through.
This fall, Charlise will be attending university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Education, where she will bring her dedication and inspiration to others.
NSGSC YOUTH: STAY IN THE GAME - WOMEN IN SPORT SCHOLARSHIP
NSGSC would like to support girls and women in the pursuits of their athletic and educational goals related to health and sport. NSGSC acknowledges the importance of seeing more female leaders in Sport and Health related fields and would like to assist them in reaching their career goals.
Recipient #1 – SOPHIE KURJI, HUSTLE
Sophie is a passionate leader who has grown through sport and uses her experiences to uplift others, demonstrating the qualities needed to inspire and support future generations of girls and women. An athlete whose influence extends beyond the field- coaching young girls in the game of soccer, supporting teachers as an assistant or volunteering her time graciously - Sophie recognizes the value of mentorship, education and connection within athletics.
This fall, Sophie will be attending university to complete either a Bachelor of Health Sciences or Sciences, her passion for health education and active living reflects the importance of supporting young women pursuing careers in health and sport related fields.
Recipient #2 – ISLA O’FLAHERTY WILLS, WARRIORS
Showing leadership through mentoring and coaching, and advocacy for positive and sustainable sport experiences, Isla meets the Club’s mission of empowering girls and women to remain engaged and successful in sport throughout their lives. Her commitment to fostering positive experiences for young athletes demonstrates the lasting influence women can have in shaping stronger, healthier and more inclusive sporting communities.
Being accepted to three top Canadian Universities, Isla will be pursuing Kinesiology and continuing her commitment to staying in the game.
DEB BRAMLEY - COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS SCHOLARSHIP
The Deb Bramley scholarship will recognize a player who is highly involved in making a positive impact on our community. Players who receive this award have shown remarkable community service and volunteer hours with a passion to give back to the community and their peers.
Recipient #1 – INDIA NEWELL, SPARROWS
A dedicated NSGSC player for 10 years, India is a compassionate leader who demonstrates a strong and consistent commitment to community impact through extensive volunteer leadership and service. India is motivated by a belief that those with greater means have a responsibility to support others and does so through action – by leading a school club, serving as a counsellor at Outdoor School, organizing community events, supporting charitable fundraising initiatives and contributing more than 150 volunteer hours annually – India has developed key leadership skills, including discernment, adaptability, and resilience in the face of challenges, while learning the importance of building meaningful community connections through service.
With acceptance to UBC, McGill, and Queen’s for environmental engineering, India will continue to align their academic path with their commitment to sustainability and community betterment, embodying the values of service, leadership, and positive impact that this award recognizes.
Recipient #2 – KATIE HIRST, RENEGADES
A dedicated player with NSGSC for 11 years, consistently embodying the Club’s values of leadership, community and inclusivity, Katie has made a sustained commitment to making a positive impact within the community through meaningful volunteer service and leadership. Through involvement with NSGSC, Katie gives back to the soccer community that helped shape them as both a player and a person, supporting the next generation of athletes through coaching and mentorship. Katie’s dedication extends beyond sport into broader community service, including volunteering at a care home in Lynn Valley where they engage with residents and provide companionship through conversation, helping to brighten their day through simple but meaningful interactions. Across these experiences, Katie consistently demonstrates that no act of service is too small to matter, showing strong empathy, responsibility, and a willingness to contribute their time and energy for the benefit of others.
This fall, Katie will be attending university to complete a Bachelor of Science to continue her commitment to the well-being of others.
NSGSC WOMEN'S PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a player who demonstrates leadership qualities as a member of her soccer team or post-secondary institution/trade/school/certificate program.
