TECHNICAL STAFF
Lee-Ann Denham, Technical Development Manager
History With the Game: Lee-Ann is a native to North Vancouver. She holds her CSA Children's License (Certified), CSA B License (Trained), BC Soccer Learning Facilitator (In Progress). In her youth, she was an NSGSC player and went on to play in University and Premier. She hasn't stopped playing since and loves all the friends she's made through the years. During University, she needed volunteer hours to get into teaching, so she started coaching...and never stopped.
Goals for Our Club: As the leader of the U14-U18 age groups, I am looking forward to supporting the coaches in their delivery of soccer knowledge to the players. I am excited to mentor the players to continue to play the game and maybe even consider coaching. Overall, I hope that everyone feels valued, respected and connected.
Favourite Part About Coaching: As a coach, I am most passionate about building a connection with the community. I love sharing my love of the game with all players, but I take being a role model for young girls extremely seriously and am aware of the impact that my presence as a coach has on players. I have been coaching a long time, and it makes me feel good to know that I have been a positive part of a lot of players' sporting adventures.
Hobbies/Interests Off the Field: When I am not on the field, I enjoy being with my niece, Cali!!!! She is my "bestie", and we enjoy traveling, adventures, sports, ice cream, and our puppy Lucky. I still play soccer often and enjoy basketball when I can fit it in. I am always up for a hike and a movie.
Vanessa Hansen, Technical Development Manager
History With the Game:Vanessa has both her CSA B license and UEFA B license. She grew up and played her youth football in Williams Lake, BC. She moved the Lower Mainland to complete her Bachelors of Kinesiology while playing for both Capilano University and the University of the Fraser Valley. She also holds a Masters of Science in Sports Management from the University of Florida. Vanessa has spent many years coaching in the BCSPL, the Female BC Provincial Program and has been an assistant coach with UBC. She has also recently returned from playing 3 seasons overseas with ZNK Gorica in Croatia.
Goals for Our Club: As the Director of High Performance and leader of the U10-U13 age group, I aspire to help elevate the technical proficiencies of our players, giving them a strong foundation they can move forward with. I look forward to connecting with our players and assisting their development both on and off the field.
Favourite Part About Coaching:My favourite part about coaching is helping players achieve something they once thought was impossible. The self efficacy and resilience that is developed from these challenges cannot be understated. The unique lessons athletes learn through sport become foundational skills for tackling life’s challenges.
Hobbies/Interests Off the Field:I spend most of my time on the field, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! If I’m not coaching, then I’m seeking out training for myself. On my days off, you can find me on the ski hill in the winter and by a beach in the summer!
Tom Fruci, Technical Development Manager
History With the Game: Tom has his UEFA C License, Soccer for Life, Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train, and Children's License. He's played soccer from a young age for local teams in his hometown (shout out Westlea Wanderers) all the way through to University. Tom's been coaching since 2008 for Swindon Town, coaching at academy and school programs. He continued his coaching pathway in different countries including the USA and Australia. He returned to England in 2016 and ran a variety of summer/holiday camps in schools throughout London and the South West, eventually coming over to Vancouver Canada, and continuing his coaching journey at NSGSC.
Goals for Our Club: As the leader of the minis program, I am looking forward to developing players from a young age and bringing in new fun, and innovative ways that young players can learn the game to better equip them as they move through the ages. I want the kids to want to come back over and over again to play, get more touches on the ball, and enjoy a game that I have loved since I was their age (which was a while ago!)
Favourite Part About Coaching: As a coach, I am most passionate about making soccer fun while developing. For me, soccer has to be fun. There are a lot of non-fun things we have to do in our lives, so coming up with new ways I can make the practice different, fun, and engaging. On top of this, I love seeing the development of the kids as they progress through the age groups, not just as players but as people. Getting to be an example to players is a privilege and seeing growth is a rewarding part of the process.
Hobbies/Interests Off the Field: When I am not on the field, I enjoy going out on my bike (mostly riding to coffee shops!) watching soccer, being in a lake or ocean, or hiking somewhere - I struggle to sit still. Traveling the world and trying to see as many countries as possible currently at 35!
